Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision on State Road 60 in Indian River County this morning, which resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:21 am a 2012 Mazda sedan driven by a 61-year-old Vero Beach woman was traveling northbound on 90th Avenue in the left turn lane, approaching a red light at the intersection of SR-60. At the same time, a 2013 Ford pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Clewiston man was traveling eastbound on SR-60 in the inside lane, approaching a green light at the intersection of 90th Avenue. As the vehicles converged, the driver of the sedan failed to stop at the red light and entered into the pathway of the pickup at the intersection; causing a collision.
After impact, the driver of the first vehicle was transported to the Cleveland Clinic where she succumbed to the injuries caused by the crash and was pronounced deceased.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers.
The crash is still under investigation.
