From staff reports and the City of Longwood
A weekly family tradition for the Uribe family has become a dream realized as Kristi and Jesse Uribe open up Nan and Pop’s Ice Cream Shop at 351 North Ronald Reagan Blvd. (across from the clock tower).
Kristi and Jesse Uribe have called Longwood their home for over 25 years. In this time, they have raised four children and witnessed the birth of their seven beautiful grandchildren. During this time, Jesse operated a successful security alarm company based in Longwood, and life was good.
Over this quarter-century of Longwood living, one of the Uribe’s favorite family traditions was an outing to get ice cream together every week. Unfortunately they, like other Longwood residents, always had to travel to neighboring cities to find it. Longwood has been without an ice cream parlor for close to 30 years.
Enter the dream
After all four of their children finished their schooling, from local Woodlands Elementary to Lyman High School, and the “nest” was empty, Kristi knew it was her turn to make a difference in the community. How better than to bring joy and possibilities through one of their favorite enjoyments – ice cream.
Even though COVID-19 was raging, they decided to move ahead. Through careful planning and perseverance, on July 4, 2020 Nan and Pop’s Ice Cream Shop had a successful grand opening and the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony shortly thereafter!
There is nothing they love more than their beautiful grandchildren, so it is no surprise that this shop is dedicated to them with sweet-as-ice-cream love. Each one of Nan & Pop’s ‘Bubble Waffle’ signature desserts is named after each unique child: Nana Banana, Pop’s Garage Pail, Rays of Sunshine, Jess’ S’mores Galore, Emma’s Candy Crush, Zaac’s Say Cheese Cake, AJ’s Almond Joy, Lelo’s Luau, Joey’s Cookie Monster Crush, and Build a Bubble.
It’s fitting that Nan & Pop’s Ice Cream Shop opened during July – National Ice Cream Month – but they far exceed any idea of “typical” with their creative menu. Sure they have the classics like shakes, floats and sundaes, but always with an exciting tasty twist. And their flavors, besides the must-have standards, include gems like Key Lime Pie, Spumoni, Blueberry Cheesecake, Apple Strudel, Kahlua Almond Fudge and other tempting delights.
Check out their menu here: Nan and Pop’s Ice Cream Shop. Or better yet, drive on over and experience it first-hand. It might just be the beginning of a new family tradition as it was for the Uribes. Except this time, thanks to their dream-turned-reality, you can stay right in your own hometown to do it.
“We adore our wonderful community.”
Kristi and Jesse hope that Nan & Pop’s brings you as much joy as the memories they made with their family. They thank you and look forward to serving each and every one of you!
