From the office of Rep. Stephanie Murphy

Rep. Stephanie Murphy

U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy will attend the grand opening of the brand new Vet Center Program in Longwood. Following a request by Murphy, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), announced it would establish this community-based facility in Seminole County to provide counseling and other services to active-duty service members and veterans who served in combat and to family members who lost a loved one as a result of military service. Currently, the VA operates such facilities in neighboring Orange, Lake, and Volusia counties, but not in Seminole County, which is home to about 22,000 veterans.

On the same day, Murphy will also visit the Discovery Academy day care facility in Orlando to read a story to three and four-year-old children. On Tax Day, Murphy will use this visit to highlight her bipartisan PACE Act—legislation that would help hard-working families in central Florida access affordable child care by updating existing provisions in the federal tax code to make a tax credit that assists in covering expenses associated with child or dependent care refundable. The average annual cost of child care for a 4-year-old is $7,688 in Florida—well more than the average cost of in-state tuition at a 4-year public college.
