From Seminole County Public Schools

Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) is pleased to announce its 2022 Teacher of the Year Finalists & Grade-Level Winners. While it may seem strange to list Teachers of the Year for 2022 rather than 2021, is because by the time the overall SCPS Teacher of the Year is named in February 2021, they then go on to represent the district in the state competition. Thus, once the state winner is named, they are serving as the “2022” Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations go to finalists Amy High, Barbara Miller and Clayton Donnan:

Amy High, K-5th Grade Exceptional Education Teacher, Idyllwilde Elementary in Sanford

Amy High, Idyllwilde Elementary

Mrs. High has dedicated her teaching career to the students at Idyllwilde Elementary. She shows the utmost respect to the profession by committing herself to the diverse needs of all students. She creates rich, meaningful, and differentiated learning experiences in a loving, supportive environment.

Barbara Miller, 7-8th TV Production, iConnect, ETF Teacher, Lawton Chiles Middle in Oviedo

Congratulations sign for Barbara Miller of Lawton Chiles Middle School

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mrs. Miller is one of the most in-demand staff
members on the Lawton Chiles Middle School campus. From helping to set-up
webcams and microphones to troubleshooting eCampus and Skyward, the teachers at
Lawton Chiles Middle School would not have been able to start the year without her.
Mrs. Miller has aided both faculty and students while still setting up her own classes
and running the school’s news crew (PAWS52).

Clayton Donnan, 9-12th Technology & Music Teacher, Crooms Academy in Sanford

Clayton Donnan with fellow teacher Sarah Smith, Crooms Academy

Clayton Donnan is serving in his 17th year teaching at Crooms Academy of
Information Technology. Mr. Donnan teaches Game and Simulation Design, as well
as the Steel Ensemble, and also serves as the Technology Department Curriculum
Leader. Additionally, he also manages CroomsCon, a social gaming event for
students across Florida that has raised more than $57,000 to benefit the Arnold
Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando.

The 2022 SCPS Teacher of the Year Celebration is presented by the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools and sponsored by Addition Financial. It will take place
virtually on Friday, February 5, 2021. During this event, the overall SCPS Teacher
