Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a detached utility trailer on County Road 760 in De Soto County this morning.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:29 am a pickup truck towing a utility trailer and driven by a 22-year-old Arcadia woman was traveling westbound on CR-760 approaching SW Nipper Avenue. The utility trailer in tow became detached from the vehicle’s trailer hitch.
At the same time a motorcycle driven by a 64-year-old Punta Gorda man was traveling east on CR 760. Upon the trailer detaching, the pickup stopped. The detached trailer traveled into the path of the motorcycle and collided with the motorcycle in the eastbound lane of CR 760.
The motorcycle driver was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition due to injuries from the collision.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers, and the crash is still under investigation.
