From the Florida Highway Patrol
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Volusia County this morning that resulted in the death of one of the drivers.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:45 am a 2015 Nissan Juke driven by a 45-year-old DeLand man and a 2001 Ford F-150 driven by a 73-year-old DeLand woman were traveling eastbound on State Road 44 near the intersection of Taganana Drive in New Smyrna Beach. The Nissan was behind the Ford.
As the Nissan approached, the driver failed to slow and struck the rear of the Ford, and then overturned, ejecting the driver who was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries according to the report.
The crash remains under investigation. The FHP did not release the names of the two drivers.
