From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Orange County this afternoon that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:21 pm, a sedan driven by a 72-year-old Orlando man was traveling northbound on Winter Garden Vineland Road near the intersection of Overland Road. At the same time, a second sedan driven by a 26-year-old Kissimmee man was traveling southbound on Winter Garden Vineland Road.
For an unknown reason, the first driver veered off onto the right shoulder and struck a cable box, traveled back into the northbound lanes across a grass median and into the southbound lanes, and struck the second sedan head-on.
The driver of the second sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the first sedan was transported to Celebration Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers, and the crash is still under investigation.
